Activities and Excursions
At CELA the excursions are included in the Spanish language program. After the lessons we will take you out 3 days a week to the most beautiful places on the island. For students who have lessons in the afternoon, the excursions are in the morning.
In Margarita you will find 167 km of inviting beaches, all with different atmosphere and possibilities to practice sports or simply relax.
Some places you will discover during our excursions are:
- Pampatar, with its Fortress Santiago de La Caranta (1586)
- La Asunción: Capital of Margarita, with the oldest church in South America, and the Castillo de Santa Rosa
- El Valle del Espíritu Santo
- Juan Griego: Fortress of La Galera (1811)
- La Restinga Lagoon National Park
- and the many different beaches Margarita has to offer
Monday or Friday afternoon the school offers for all participants free salsa dance lessons.
Activities at extra cost:
Windsurfing and Sailing: Playa El Yaque is internationally for its steady winds and tranquil waters. Playa El Yaque is 30 minutes away from the school. It is possible to rent a car on the island. Car rental is not expensive on the island.
Diving: Ideal ocean depths are to be found in Los Frailes, Coche and Cubagua for the practice of this sport. Safety is taken care of by PADI qualified companies.
Excursion to Los Roques, Canaima and Delta del Orinoco

Golf: A growing sport that is rapidly gaining ground, presently on the fabulous golf course at the Isla Bonita Hotel and soon at the Margarita Golf and Country Club.
Fitness: Fitness centers, spas and excellent tracks for walking, jogging and cycling. There are two fitness centers within walking distance to the school.
Surfing: Local and national enthusiasts of this sport meet here all year round in Playa Parguito, next to Playa El Agua, where strong waves of medium size roll in.
Yoga: Yoga is taught by a private teacher close to the school; please ask at the school office for further information.
Hiking: A hiking trip is offered by Sr. Antonio, it can be booked at school.
