Wednesday, February 29th, 2012Near the Botanical Gardens and the Plaza Venezuela is the University City of Central University of Venezuela (UCV). The City University has been part of the cultural heritage of UNESCO (United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture) since November 2000. The UCV was designed and executed by the architect Carlos Raul Villanueva between 1945 and 1954. It is located in an area of 202.53 hectares that belonged to the old Ibarra estate in Caracas. The project brings together beautiful gardens with artwork by renowned artists of the time such as Mateo Manuare, Jean Arp, and Alexander Calder among others. Impressive even today is the Great Hall (El Aula Magna), which has perfect acoustics. On the 12th floor of the Library is the Council for Preservation and Development (COPRED) that deals with heritage conservation. There you can request a guided tour.
